Happy Father's Day

Today being Father's Day, we wanted to do something special with Daddy, so after a homecooked breakfast of eggs and toast, and some quality video gaming time, we headed off on an adventure.

Within the past two years the Indianapolis Museum of Art (with the exception of special exhibits) and the Lilly House and Gardens have made admission free. This makes a wonderful and inexpensive special occasion destination. The last Friday before Hazel was born, we had our last childless couple date at the IMA. We had dinner at Puck's restaurant and saw the Roman art exhibit. This year for Father's Day, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful sunny weather (83 degrees) and take a guided tour of the gardens at the Lilly house. It was beautiful, but a little hot in the sun, so we're glad to be back in the air conditioning.

I think Glenn is going to go back to playing his video game while I finish up some homework, and then we're going to have pancakes for dinner. (Don't ask me, that's what Daddy requested.)

Glenn's Reflections on Father's Day

Father's Day is truly the happiest day of the year. What could beat a day filled with video games, Hazel kisses, and breakfast for dinner? Nothing. However, I might have eaten one or two too many pancakes, and chugging the syrup to wash it all down might not have been my best choice. Regardless, everyday should be Father's Day!!!

One year of blogging...

Today is our one year anniversary of setting up this blog. It hardly seems possible that only one year ago we were anxiously awaiting our giggling girl, not knowing just how wonderful she would be when she got here. If you get a chance, take a look back over the past year of posts and marvel at just how much things have changed in only a year. (I especially like to look at the posts from October and wonder how our big girl was ever that little.)

As far as Hazel is concerned, everyday is cause for celebration. On Saturday, Glenn was helping some friends move into their new apartment, and Hazel and I went to the library to do some homework. She fell asleep in her car seat on the way there; which is exactly what I was hoping would happen. I let her sleep in her pumpkin seat while I worked on my homework for about an hour. Now, here's the special thing about Hazel. She rarely wakes up in a bad mood, and Saturday was no exception. When she woke up, she started singing. And not just singing, but exalting at the top of her lungs. I think she was singing Cat Stevens, "I can't keep it in, I can't keep it in, I gotta let it out." So I told her that I understand how hard it is not to sing when you got the feelin' but let's take it outside, since people like it quiet in the library. Everyday brings new insight into this wonderful, silly girl we have.

Well, I will post a few pictures, since that seems to be what our readers want. (And not me waxing philosophical over the passage of time and the joy of infants.)

And lastly, Hazel and Daddy have special time together on Monday nights and Tuesday nights while Momma's at class. They play hard and Momma always comes home to a sleepy baby. This is what I came home to last night. . .

Update

I know it has been ages since our last update, and we appreciate Hazel's loyal fans so patiently awaiting this post. Things have been busy in the McCain household. Glenn is finishing up his thesis, and plans to schedule his defense for next month or early July. I have started work on my masters degree, and go to class Monday night and Tuesday night. I also have an online course which takes far more time than it should. Hazel is still enjoying school and we are everyday expecting her to get up and crawl.

This weekend we spent Sunday at the zoo with the Patterson girls. We were so busy chasing after everyone that we didn't have a chance to take any pictures. (The fact that we were overwhelmed caring for four children at once for only a day is, I suspect, why life only gives us one baby at a time. I can't imagine being the parents of twins or (gasp) quadruplets!) Hazel loved playing with her cousins and she didn't think the zoo was half bad either. She especially loved the dolphin show, but I think that was to be expected of our little water baby.

We are excited about the summer. Warm weather can't get here fast enough and we have big plans for this summer. A small taste of those plans includes baseball games at Victory Field, the Burton family trip to Disney World in June, a possible trip to Huntsville for the fourth of July, and lots of swimming and playing outside.

I will post a few pictures of Hazel and Audrey playing in Audrey's crib together on Sunday, as well as a video of Hazel's latest trick.

Hazel is clearly more interested in the camera, but you get the idea. (She's beginning to love the limelight as you can see.)

Congratulations Anne!

Auntie Anne made us all very proud on Saturday when she participated in and completed the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini Marathon. Anne ran the entire 13.1 miles and finished in under 2.5 hours which was her goal. Glenn and I watched the girls and made sure that they made it to their softball little league opening ceremonies, so that Tony could be at the race to cheer Anne on. He sent us this action shot from mile 10.
